LONG DISTANCE
Crown
Relocations Inc. can arrange for any size of shipment
to be delivered to any address in the US,
including Alaska and Hawaii. Crown is one
of the leading agents for Carlyle Van Lines,
a major interstate carrier. You can find out
more about Carlyle at www.carlylevanlines.com
or by calling (800) 356-4194.
Once
again, the moving process for interstate shipments
begins with a call to Crown to set up a home
visit for a written estimate. Initially, our
staff can provide a rough ballpark price for
your interstate move, but it is essential
to get a written estimate.
Allow
at least a month between getting estimates
and your proposed moving date. Crown advises
having three separate estimates from different
Moving companies. (Movers,
International Movers)
Crown’s
representative will compile a survey based
on what furniture, artwork, electronics and
other goods are being moved. You will also
be asked if you require any packing services.
This involves one of Crown’s experienced
packing staff being in your home at least
a couple of days before your scheduled moving
date to carefully box and carton all your
loose belongings such as glassware, dishes,
paintings, stereos, computers etc.,. Certain
items such as glass-topped tables or particularly
delicate pieces may require special care and
attention in the form of crates.
Choosing
between having Crown pack your things or doing
this yourself will also have an impact upon
the valuation option you select. In very general
terms, anything that is packed by the moving
company becomes their responsibility in terms
of loss and damage protection. Items packed
by the customer are not subject to the same
strictures. Please see our section on Valuation
for more details.
After
the survey is completed and your packing requirements
have been discussed, Crown’s representative
will give you a written estimate. This will
detail the estimated weight of your shipment
and its resultant cost, packing charges, valuation
and any other incidentals. In most cases,
Crown will offer a guaranteed price for your
interstate move. This will be binding and
you cannot be charged more than the bottom
line price even if your shipment weighs in
excess of the estimated poundage.
It
is important to get the same kind of quote
from all your potential movers. If they make
no mention of a price being guaranteed, make
sure you ask them to provide this. Otherwise,
you may end up being charged for the exact
weight of the shipment, which could well be
heavily in excess of the estimate. If the
charges are more than the non-binding quote,
you will be asked to pay the estimated cost
plus 10 per cent of the balance when your
shipment is delivered. Any outstanding costs
are liable within 30 days.
Payment
for an interstate move is usually required
either in cash, certified check or money order
and is payable before delivery. Crown will
accept personal checks for certain interstate
moves; please ask your Crown representative
for precise details.
You
will normally be offered a two-to-three day
window for the delivery of your shipment.
This will vary depending upon where the shipment
is going and how much it weighs.
It
is also important at both loading and delivery
to be aware of the contents of the driver’s
inventory of your shipment. This is a list
of everything in your shipment that is loaded
on the truck. Each item has a unique identifying
number which relates to an entry on the inventory
sheets. It is the customer’s responsibility
to note any damage, omissions or losses when
the shipment is delivered. You will be asked
to sign as to the content and conditions of
the shipment. Inventory sheets should be attached
to the Bill of Lading, which is the governing
document for the actual duration of the move.
