LOCAL MOVES
In
the Chicagoland area, a local move is known
as an intrastate move. The pricing and regulations
for a local move are different to those for
interstate moves.
Perhaps
the most important variation lies in the way
by which the cost of a local move is calculated
versus the method for long-distance shipments.
Local moves come at an hourly rate for a certain
number of movers and trucks. This is one of
the most important reasons for obtaining a
written, on-site estimate for your local move.
Crown’s
experienced sales staff will provide a written
estimate detailing the expected number of
movers and trucks best suited to carry out
your move in the most cost-effective and professional
manner. The dollar cost of movers and trucks
is determined by the Tarriff under which Crown
is registered with the Illinois Movers’
and Warehousemen’s Association (IMAWA).
Packing
costs are also determined by a registered
Tarriff at IMAWA. Again, it is crucial to
obtaining an accurate estimate that you specify
to our sales staff your precise packing requirements.
These will be identified separately on your
written estimate.
It
is important to know that it is unlawful for
a mover licensed with the Illinois Commerce
Commission (ICC) to offer a binding estimate
or a fixed price for a local move. ALL local
moves are priced by the length of time the
move takes to complete with a designated number
of movers and trucks. DO NOT believe any moving
company that guarantees a price for a local
move in Illinois. It is highly probable they
are unlicensed and therefore not subject to
the regulations and restrictions imposed by
the ICC and IMAWA. You will end up paying
for the actual time taken to complete the
move as well as any other “ancilliary”
charges arbitrarily imposed by an unlicensed
mover.
At
the time of your on-site estimate, Crown’s
representative will outline our options for
valuation and/or insurance for your protection
against loss and damage. There may or may
not be added charges for these options depending
upon your selection. Please click on to our
Valuation section for more information.
Crown
accepts payment for local moves in the form
of either cash, personal or certified bank
check. We do not accept credit cards.
