CHECKLIST
1.
Obtain written estimates at least one month
before your scheduled move date.
2.
As soon as you have selected your moving company,
call them to confirm the date of the move
and select a start time for the move. For
a local move, call Crown at least three weeks
before move date during the high season (April
through September), or two weeks during the
rest of the year. Discuss any outstanding
matters such as any storage requirements,
valuation options and payment methods. Do
not be afraid to ask questions!
3.
If you live in a building with elevators,
and/or are moving to such a building, call
the management office(s) to reserve your elevator
time. Do this at least two weeks before the
move date. Allow plenty of time for the elevator
portions of the move. Remember that many buildings
restrict use of elevators for moves to certain
days and times of day. Elevator moves actually
take longer than most conventional apartment
or single family home moves. (Movers,
International Movers, and Moving Companies)
4.
Make sure Crown has all available contact
numbers for yourself and your family. Ideally,
leave details of a cellphone contact in case
of emergency on the day of the move when domestic
phone service will have been disconnected.
5.
In the event of any changes to your move date,
or the starting time, call Crown as soon as
these are known. Communication is key to a
successful move.
6.
If you require beds to be disassembled or
reassembled, please advise us in advance to
allow the crew to take appropriate tools.
Remember as well that for a local move, charges
depend on the hours taken to complete the
move, so factor in the extra cost time-wise
of such jobs.
7.
Be packed and ready to start the move on time!!
It is crucial that all packing be completed
when the crew arrives. Nothing causes more
confusion in a move than the crew trying to
load the truck while the customer finishes
packing.
8.
Have one person be responsible for directing
the crew chief. Crown’s crew chief will
identify him or herself to the customer upon
arrival, and it helps the move go much more
smoothly if the chief is dealing with just
one single individual as opposed to a committee
of friends and relatives.
9.
Read the Bill of Lading carefully when asked
to do so by the crew chief. This is the governing
document relating to the contractual aspect
of the move. If there is any charge or cost
or arrangement that you are unsure of or require
clarification to, call Crown immediately.
10.
When the move is finished and the bill has
been totaled up, call Crown immediately if
there are any queries. Please remember that
payment for a local move is based on the previously
agreed combination of movers and trucks and
the time taken from the beginning of the move
to its conclusion.
